Subject: A Walk through 3GPP Core Network Specifications

Project Group: OAI 5G Core Network

Date: 2022/02/21

Schedule: from 13:00 to 14:00 CET

Place: Zoom (This webinar is a virtual event)

Speaker: Rohan Kharade, Software Engineer, OSA

Abstract: Understanding 3GPP specifications and translating them into code is a challenging and time-consuming process. Therefore, it is important to carefully learn to study the specifications and to interpret and implement them precisely for full standard compliance, thus ensuring interoperability with other compliant devices. In this webinar, we will investigate:

1. Introduction, overview, challenges to understanding 3GPP specs for the Core Network

2. Recommended reading guidelines

3. A look at how OAI engineers work with the 3GPP specs and translate them into OAI code

4. Implementation case study: Developing Information Elements (IEs)

Speaker: Rohan KHARADE is a software engineer at OpenAirInterface and he is mainly involved in the Core Network development. Rohan finished his master studies in 2020 at Eurecom, with a Mobile Computing System specialization. During his research tenure, he contributed to the development of the WLAN controller at IIT Bombay. He was also involved in related standardization and IPR activities. At the OpenAirInterface Software Alliance, he contributed to the integration of VPP based UPF for 4G and 5G core. Rohan developed the first release of NSSF which added a slice selection feature to the OAI 5G Core Network.
